Redcliffe Remembers 1824-2024

In mid-September 1824, Lieutenant Henry Miller landed the brig, Amity, on the shores of Redcliffe Peninsula in the Gubbi Gubbi nation and established the First European Settlement in Queensland.

History Redcliffe is currently planning the ways in which we will mark the 200th anniversary of this historic event.

Merry Christmas from History Redcliffe! A 1942 aerial image of the area we now know as Kippa-Ring (officially named a suburb of Redcliffe in 1971). So many changes in 83 years! Give a little Redcliffe History this Christmas… Today we’re acknowledging the centenary of Anzac Memorial Avenue. Here's a snapshot of mid-20th century Redcliffe including a procession on Redcliffe Parade, Suttons Beach scenes, the Redcliffe Jetty and the Hornibrook Highway. These images were captured from Kodachrome slides kindly lent to History Redcliffe by Kathy Johnston. Aerial images of Redcliffe and Margate 1942 and 2005. Woody Point 1942 and 2025. The Palace Hotel (demolished 2014) is visible in the first image but the Gayundah isn't at Woody Point yet. What else do you notice? Images from Geosciences Australia and Google Maps. A few weeks ago we published a set of questions that the Redcliffe Historical Society posed to attendees at a mystery evening in 1986. Nearly 40 years ago, on the evening of 12 June 1986, the Redcliffe Historical Society, held a mystery evening for members. Here are the questions posed to those who attended.
